What's this big modern movement with the Goddess, Wicca, Gaia, etc.?

The ancient Goddess-Creatrix - - Magna Mater with many other names - - is resurgent today with adherents believing She is moving to "fulfillment" in feminine supremacy. Few realize the extent of the modern movement, but see the bibliography of modern sources below.

The history is that she created the male, and hence is superior to him. But around 3,000 BCE she was pushed off center stage by males. Nonetheless, she remained very much in the picture (even in Hebrew culture where  Solomon "went for Astoreth" late in his life).

Males oppressed women, but today with laws of equality, the Goddess-concept is reasserting itself, and above males (changing the pattern of millennia), and beyond equality, to supremacy. Some forms can be seen in the revived interest in witchcraft "lite" such as Wicca, also dark, and sorcery, and Gaia (Mother Earth).

In books independent of Goddess-theory, reliable researchers report the decline of the male or "Y" chromosome, saying males may be on the way out. So the overall subject deserves a well-researched look.

Is the interrupted primal Goddess-power moving again - - and this time to new heights of what followers call "fulfillment"?

GODDESS THEORY
by Karl Roebling

Today, we have a resurgence of the Goddess. (See the bibliography of modern sources below.)
The Great Mother, Magna Mater, Gaia or Mother Earth or Mother Nature - - one concept under different names - - has been the Originator worshiped widely by many (both before and after being pushed off center stage by the males she created). Mesopotamia's Inanna, Ishtar (the name means "Queen of Heaven"), Egypt's Isis, Ashtoreth (seen in the Solomon story in the Bible), Phoenicia's Astarte, and others, are essentially the same high entity. Embodiments in stone, art, writing and religions have unmistakably identified these and more. This Creatrix concept is conceptually different from lower-level goddesses and demigoddesses, despite many variations, overlaps and frequent portrayals in lower roles.
In the traditional and now resurgent theory, the Goddess is the real creator (in this case, creatrix, called by some genetrix). Since she made males, she is superior to them. As the basic theory unfolds, she gave or allowed males too much power, and they took over, oppressed women. Today, she has figured out how to rein in males, put them down, even recall the model, and increase her power.
Advocates secretly or openly believe or hope she will rise to new heights, ruling over all in a final elevated stage of "fulfillment."
So is all this to be taken seriously, or dismissed, or what? A mid-position, I would say, can be taken as we observe it, learn about it, and learn about witchcraft lite (popular Wicca is part of that) or dark, partly hidden among us but emerging vigorously with new goals.

Theocratic and worship forms of the Goddess, lesser goddesses and gods, appeared variously over millennia due to different regimes, times, cultures and religious concepts, but the main Goddess/Creatrix remained as a - - or even the - - shadow power (often in plain view). Now, advocates want emergence, and the highest strength.
Until recently, prehistory was mostly closed to us, but Joseph Campbell made the differentiation between fictional myths and solid folklore myths which gave insights into the past prior to writing.
About 3000 BCE, the time of early writing, males took over. The Goddess remained in the heavens and also on the ground, but males were dominant in surface and secular aspects. Males were muscular, had weapons - - and they oppressed women. (Some say Aryans coming in from north of Sumeria caused the change.)
Today, the male has been reined in. He's in the new wide zone where women, at least in much of the West, are now considered equal. But some say males are obsolete and maybe even in danger of extinction, evidenced too by decline of the male Y chromosome. But the various scenarios allow that maybe males will be spared, although as drones - - with perhaps a few token super-males kept as playthings, sperm-stock, and elements to misdirect thought from seeing that the Goddess is running her cosmic and earthly fulfillment show.
In essence, that's the basic story. Now let's flesh it out.

-

The Goddess Idea Is Deep In The Human Psyche
(And Won't Be Gone Till The Woman Of Babylon Is Finished)

The Goddess idea - - material (mater, mother) creator and creation - - is often nice on top, but death, built in, rules beneath.
Prehistoric tribes understood death. It was all around them, and supreme. They also saw that life - - at least in the form of animals and humans - - came from a female's womb. Therefore, living creation - - and maybe the whole universe - - had to have a Mother, right?

Big Mama
A Great Mother, Sky Mother, Nature Mother were some of the names they gave this idea. And with a mother-concept, there had to be a reproductive cycle to keep up with the dying which was built into mortal life or "death-life."
What about the inanimate things? Well, throughout recorded history, such things as volcanos, mountains and rivers have often been considered as living - - or to have a spirit, or even be a spirit - - and some are worshiped. (In the South Seas, volcanos or their spirits were worshiped, but today only ceremonially for tourists.)
The earth itself, in some concepts, is considered "living," and is (or has been in the past) worshiped. Mother Earth. Gaia.
Organic things such as trees, crops and flowers, are living, and hence considered creations of the "Mother of all living things."
Many then and now believe that Creation has a Mother.
Christianity has a male God (but some in Christianity present Mary as a Goddess, even Mother of God - - and "Mother of all living things").
(As for the secular, even material science is starting to believe in some higher creator - - unspecified but there - - as Einstein did.)
In any event, since today's resurging Goddess idea has placed itself "on the discussion table," so to speak, along with other concepts, this paper looks into the subject.

The Goddess ruled prehistory, and has come forward. Even after males took over, she remained in varying degrees of prominence in recorded times.
Over the recorded 3000 years BCE in the general Middle East including Egypt, there were many religions with the Goddess extended into hundreds of gradations, shadings and overlaps, including lesser goddesses. The central Goddess was felt even in the Hebrew male-God culture BCE. And Goddess concepts certainly went into the galaxy of goddesses and gods in Greece and Rome. And something of the central Goddess concept - - Mother of God, and possibly "of all living things" - - lodged in varying degrees in parts of the new Christianity.

Grasping muddled structures isn't easy
Grasping the structures of gods and goddesses isn't easy because in the many regimes, religions and modifications thereof, simple and complex, the characters changed, reshuffled, morphed, played different even multiple roles. Cleopatra claimed to "be" Isis. Other leaders claimed various incarnations. Early, the Goddess/Creatrix was very sexual - - but later, pure and holy. Or back and forth - - her sexual activity sometimes hidden and super-guarded by taboos, other times overt.

Only by looking at basic levels can structures be sorted out
The highest level is the originator or Creatrix.
In most accounts, she creates the first male by parthenogenesis. He  then becomes her consort (the incest factor at this high and essential level being overlooked). Then creation including women and ordinary males starts appearing.
Cultures were many and scattered in those days of low populations, incredibly slow travel and little dissemination of news or information. One might learn of another's gods and goddesses only when invading. But despite diversity and widely-varying accounts, there was a remarkable uniformity on the basics, indicating that these things are built into the human psyche. (See Jean Shinoda Bolen MD, Gods in Everyman and Goddesses in Everywoman.)
There are second tier goddesses and gods, in charge of rivers, fertility, crops and so on. Greece and the later Rome had elaborate pantheons, partly modern as we see in art and buildings admired at least as art and architecture in the present. Earlier cultures and empires had fewer players - - except for Egypt's complex and interesting scenarios, with its records which give us a good look inside its life and thinking.
Below the second tier were demigods and demigoddesses. (Humans often claimed - - and claim - - those statuses!)
Female leaders wanting to claim to be the top Goddess but wary of rebellions, retained the top Goddess and her popular rites! - - then settled for second place. Cleo, though, said she was Isis.
In all levels, there was overlap, also changing of positions and appearance (for example, as exalted indistinct entities, or as oversized humans or plain humans, and even as animals), with changes sometimes even of sex, and with regard to degrees of engagement in sex. Sex could occur with other gods or goddesses, or mere humans, or even when as animals with mere humans, and so on.
In a major dichotomy, purity was a desideratum for the Goddess Herself, but also necessary was her presiding over, and taking part in, the rites (orgies) getting the annual reproductive cycle started.
Goddesses of fertility could be lower goddesses, and these also had reproductive-cycle-rites with of course ordinary humans.
There were animal goddesses and gods of various ranks in Egypt and Crete, some superior to humans.
Hathor in Egypt was sometimes a cow, sometimes even Isis. Thus, levels might ride up and down like an elevator, concepts varying from regime to regime.
In the variety of cultures in the region, priests and priestesses pretty much went along with changes made by regimes, in the interest of keeping their jobs - - and their heads on their shoulders. However, sometimes the priests and their systems swayed the regimes.

But woven in early and often was usually the fundamental of a Magna Mater, although maybe not in every case. For example, in some Egyptian descriptions and times, Ra the Sun God was supreme, in others Isis. But Ra might have been the First Son level, with Mama in the background. Consorts could appear to be fully equal, even more glowing and certainly more overt, while actually being Son-consorts. Sources strive to give us clarity, but the situations were so involved - - and worse, always changing - - as to make clarity essentially impossible.
(In the US today, in its celebrities alone - - not counting inanimate things in its money-culture - - are more gods, goddesses and idols [top, mid and demi] than in all cultures in history put together.)

A theme, not necessarily a structured religion, found worldwide, centered on the male Sun and the female moon. However, that is probably in the reproductive level below Magna Mama.
Cultures strove - - and still strive - - to define how the world and humanity came into being. Mainly, this has been - - and is - - religion-centered; but also, Greeks philosophied, and today science is busy trying to explain.
Strong rulers once made changes, while weak ones kept the old lest the people rise up.   Today we tolerate many theories on many tables at once.

Hebrew God
A male-God culture took over in Canaan.
The special lineage from Adam, traced in the Bible's "begats," had a few survivors from Noah's ark. Some were prominent in rebuilding and repopulating Mesopotamia. (Were these the only humans available for the world-repopulation effort? There are differing opinions on this.)
In any event, Terah the father of Abram took his family from Ur near the Persian Gulf north to Haran just inside today's Turkey, where Terah died. Then God directed Abram south into Canaan (or in effect told him to finish instructions that may have first been given at Ur). He went forward, with his wife Sarai, other family members, herds and herders.
Jehovah was a male figure much like a human, presumed to have created everything material - - skies, earth, animals, humans. The pre-Flood biblical lineage people apparently worshiped this God-concept, and also, to some extent, God as Spirit. The accounts aren't clear, but the continuation of the special lineage in the Abrahamic Hebrews progressively centered on the Jehovistic idea - - material or quasi-material, capable of both constructive and destructive thinking and acts.
In the special lineage, monotheism was official both before and after the Flood - - although polytheism was active under the radar.
On the later Exodus, the population created a Golden Calf. And later, Solomon in his advanced years accepted a main Goddess - - Ashtoreth - - and other tribal deities (see I Ki. 11:1-8). His large harem of hundreds, including princesses of many tribes in political union, had brought their own goddesses, gods, dolls, idols, private little ceremonies, rituals and so on. The world's wisest man kept peace among these necessarily neglected - - due to their sheer quantity - - women, by not interfering in their religious choices and rites. But he later joined in.
Officially, the Abrahamic Hebrews had monotheism and a male man-like God who was the Creator.
As late as the 1500s CE, the Sistine Chapel ceiling was painted with a semi-naked male human-like God creating his image Adam - - a naked male with genitals showing. So the idea had endurance.

The special lineage and "chosen"
Monotheism and a living Deity (that is, no inanimate idols) distinguished the special or chosen people from any others on earth in all time. (Egypt's short so-called "monotheism" under Amenhotep III was only worship of Aton, the sun's disk.)
The special lineage story is slightly awkward in that Adam was cursed and thrown out, yet he lived in years over 900, second only to Methuselah, so he must have had a working relationship with the real Deity however depicted. Also pre-Flood, Enoch's ascension indicated he knew the real divine irregardless of how the mass of people might have perceived God. (Evidently the broad population wasn't on track, because the Bible says God got so angry with sinful humans that He killed all except Noah and his small group.)
In the pre-Flood story as a whole, many assume that the entire population of earth came from the special lineage (that is, that all humanity descended from Adam), but it would appear, though, that there were other humans. One reason for God's genocidal anger is stated as the sons of God getting too friendly with the "daughters of men."
Those in Noah's small group were the only ones of the special "begats" lineage to survive. Many of that lineage - - whether connected or rejected - - had to have been drowned. Any other humans if any existed were also wiped out (but there are non-Bible records of people enduring a mighty flood - - however, those could have been of a flood or floods other than The Flood).
The special lineage came through in Noah's small group, then continued down to Terah, Abraham's father, and beyond.

Whereas sex was a problem in Eden, it wasn't a problem in God's instructions to Noah's little group to get busy and repopulate the entire world (Gen. 8:17; 9:1).

Abraham's Hebrews, patriarchal society, government and religion - - all male phallic
Many people in Abraham's era were "'Apiru" (David Daiches, Moses) also called "Abiru" and "Habiru" (National Geographic) - - from which the term "Hebrew" may have come, but they were not the chosen.
The chosen were special, and Abraham and his descendants further came under divine covenants.
The broad Judaism which gradually emerged continued the patriarchal society.
It was male phallic. A central religious rite was circumcision, which Paul later said was not significant (I Cor. 7:19; Gal. 6:15).
But the male phallus represented power, scepter, weapon, ruler, life-giver, death-inflicter, authority, and so on.
Whereas in the world at large, many tribes and a cultured religion or two had phallic worship in the open or hardly concealed (Shinto "mushrooms" for example), among the Israelites it was sublimated in the religion and all aspects of the government and culture. That is, it wasn't in the open in direct worship with idol phalluses per se, or ithyphallic god statues.
After the Goddess system was taken over by males, women were oppressed into secondary roles. This was seen everywhere in the general polytheistic cultures, which were dominated by males, and also in the Jehovistic system and its monotheism, run by males.

Women wanted the power - - essentially all the aspects of the male phallic system
Women wanted the male power. First, they wanted to end their secondary role, but more, they wanted the full control in time. (That total position is spoken of in today's resurgent Goddess movement as fulfillment of the original but interrupted Goddess concept - - a fulfillment that might or might not have males at all; however, if any males, whether exalted or drones, servants, because after all, the Goddess made 'em and has the right to control, subjugate or even kill 'em.)
But to return our discussion to the OT, any "woman power" in those days was next to impossible, except where through males.

Jesus' Conception Without The Male Phallus

Because the male phallus was left out, Jesus' conception was the first chink in male armor.
Did women then rejoice at what could be God putting down the male phallus, and thus possibly starting a favorable trend in their direction? No, because awareness both of what had happened, and the significance of Jesus, took centuries to dawn. Most of the population of the Middle East and eastern Mediterranean didn't pay much attention. Mainly, only the New Testament writers establishing the developing religion of Christianity - - and certainly Early Christianity itself for nearly 300 years - - emphasized the virgin birth. Then of course the formal Catholic Church - - after Constantine after 312 - -  continued the virgin birth (although it essentially ended the divine healing found in Early Christianity), and steadily expanded concepts of Mary.

High-level opposites - - Jesus and Goddess
Jesus and the Goddess are destined to square off. Why? Jesus represents the spiritual Kingdom and man - - harmlessly, beneficially and transformationally replacing the material mess - - while the Goddess represents the material creation or mess.
Jesus' higher realm and man also empowers humans over evil.

Opposites at ground level - - virginity  vs. the male phallus
Usually in nature, the penis goes merrily to the vagina, but after Jesus' conception, the vagina was blocked by the religion's virginity desideratum and its mental and psychological intimidations.
Something new was on the world scene.
By use of the carnal mind's powerful, "law of sin [followed by death from a harsh God]," the OT's once-great male phallic icon could be hit with sin-imputation and hurled back upon itself even if it merely thought about penetrating the new religious icon - - virginity.
If the male phallus broke through the taboos anyhow, it was even more guilty.
The male phallus had been defrocked and brought low.
Meanwhile, the holy virginal hymen - - its total opposite - - was elevated.
The male phallus was now sin itself, while the female became holiness personified - - divine, impenetrable - - and able to zap the now low-crawling serpent with the falsely righteous sin-imputation "law" of sin followed by death from God or Goddess.

Women identifying with virginity and the Virgin Mary
Women identifying with virginity and the Virgin Mary resulted in the European double standard, also in male "madonna," "pedestalized woman," and Oedipal complexes.
General church womanhood embraced and wished to identify with holy virginity.
Marriageable lasses wanted holiness-virginity not the male's member - - at least, that was the religious ideal.
In the Dark and Middle Ages, church women in wedlock under the holy sacrament of marriage were, generally speaking, reluctant to engage in sex - - leading to development of the famed European double standard in which males did their duty-sex and procreation under the figurative eye of priest and society, then went outside for plain sex, with even the priests looking the other way.
Males were religiously and mentally intimidated. In psychology today, terms for this include the "madonna complex" resulting from the virgin ideal, and also the lesser, "pedestalized woman."
Since the virginity/holiness concept was soaked in motherdom and overtones of holy motherhood, Oedipal fears arose in males.
Worse, God Himself was the father and all-seeing supervisor in the Oedipal aspect, further scaring the male seeking access to his lass who was identifying in the church mode as much as nature and her nature would allow.

Women to ride the thunderbolt?
From prehistory's storm-frightened tribespeople forward to today, the carnal mind's most active "mechanism" and all-around tool of oppression has been the imputation of sin followed by the threat of death from above. This threatens and pins our psyches, also causes avoidance maneuvers and the making of religious "deals" with the heavens. Whether we are conscious of it or not, thrusts and pinnings in some measure control or influence our behavior. A dangerous deity with erratic law, authority and activity, was and is able to control or influence people and even kings.
Jesus overturned the law of sin followed by death from above with his presentation of his all-good and helpful (not adversarial and punishing) God. He healed sinners (Mat. 9:2, 5-7; Jn. 8:3-11 - - and see Paul's comments in Romans 8:2 where he said Jesus made him free from the law of sin and death). Yet that basic carnal mind or devil mechanism "law" has remained at the center of most human thought and religions.

But what if women - - instead of the customary males - - found out how to ride that thunderbolt law (based as it was on primitive fears of terrifying lightning and dark-sky-roiling thunder)? And what if that already over-expanded law were extended to include dark justice coming down to protect and avenge women faced with possible or actual violation of virginity? And what if the Deity on whom the women were patterned were higher than mere God, in fact, the Mother of God - - and thus everything were soaked in Oedipal motherdom and overseen by the mighty frown of the Oedipal Father, an angry and severe God Himself?
Such a psycho-religious apparatus could indeed transform the once-powerful penis into, instead, a total sin-package. Males could be targeted for "death from God," reversing the power-position, putting females on top.

"Judo" to put males under Goddess-authority
In judo, the attacker's own strength is used against him.
The natural male penile drive is towards the vagina. That - - within limits - - is called normal by all (except antisex schools, where all sex is sin and should be stopped).
An antisex school developed in Christianity where religion opposed the male organ instead of incorporating it into the religion as in the Old Testament.
Christianity's antisex school was the opposite of the abundant sex of much of the Old Testament, and showed up in celibacy in clergy.
In the battle of virginity vs. the male phallus, the mental, psychological and religious struggle probably didn't reduce to any great extent the use of the male organ, but vastly increased discomfort, guilt and male vulnerability.

The new female phallus - - a sticker mental and religious
The new female phallus comes about in the following way.
The mental intent and the actual male drive runs into a wall.
      And is turned around.
Then the super-sin accusation power drives it back deep into instinctive, deep-conviction levels of the guilty male's psyche.
This powerful insertion tool - - mental, religious, transfixing, occupying and controlling - - became the female instrument or female phallus capable of changing the male-supremacy structure.

The fallen-icon penis became the low-crawling dragon in the dust to be speared by St. Georgina.

No defense
Usually, defenses for the psyche deflect most thrusts. But in the super-sin of sexual thoughts or acts in the direction of the God-defended holy vagina, the power penetrates defenses to lodge in the core of the male's nervous system, facilitating continuing control.

No way to get rid of it
Once, sinners could dump accusations onto scapegoat-sacrificees. However, after it was religiously determined that Jesus was the sacrifice for sins for all people for all time, males could no longer get a substitute to die for their sins. They couldn't even die for their own sins (because suicide sent one to hell). So they had to accept the deep thrust of the female religious and mental super-spike with its negative occupying and "screwing."

(When possible, the new thunderbolt nailed males in the thinking stage. If thoughts became action, sullying the holy temple, that further increased male guilt. Even if women secretly wanted the sex, and the male overcame phony "no-no" obstacles, the ongoing "divine" thunderbolt threat still stood, and at least reduced the male, putting him under a measure of control.)

Male phallus and female phallus compared
The male phallus is overt, physical, carnal as hell, screwing in the bottom. The female phallus is covert, mental, religious, screwing in the head and nervous system.

Screw? How can holiness - - false holiness, that is - - "screw"?
Carnal thought is twisted, so that's possibly an aspect of "screw." Another is adversarial put-down or pin-down penetration action. Or false blame.

Masochism - - how males "like it"
Masochism - - psychology's "pleasure principle" - - sensualizes or sexualizes ("libidinizes") inescapable pain, humiliation, occupation, control and such things, hidden or open.

Sadomasochism
The carnal mind is the sadist, getting its kicks from victimizing - - in this case - - its human creations or children.
The combination of the sadist's perverted impartations and the sensualization of the receipt of them, constitutes sadomasochism.
Sadly, sadism is the fundamental relationship of the carnal mind (Goddess/material Creatrix) to its creations. The unreasonableness starts in the Garden, and continues throughout mortal or death-life existence in religious and secular forms advanced and lesser.

Antisex sex or reverse sex?
In antisex sex, or reverse sex, the supposedly holy-pure Goddess concept profanely threatens, spikes, occupies, controls and screws males under its superiority, for the crimes of sex thoughts and acts against the spurious, lying perfection - - and obtains sensual response. It is mental and religious, not physical. To appearances, there's only holiness, no relationship but instead an unbridgeable gap between good and evil. However, it bridges its own gap with sin-thrusts and sensualisms dark, secretive, and taboo-guarded.

Needed - - its own religions
When post-biblical Goddess-power and female supremacy were first trying to take off and fly, they lacked their necessary own religions. They were only part of an existing male-run church with a male God. The road ahead for females uber alles was not an open one.

Special note regarding Mary
I'm all for Mary, and for any who want to pray to her. Countless good results have come from such prayers. But I'm not for the Goddess elements added onto her through many centuries. I believe Goddess-theology veers us off the track.

Today
In recent decades, the Goddess concept has reemerged with revitalized old forms, its own religions or quasi-religions, and stirrings inside existing religions. It is moving independently, tolerated by general populations, governments, schools, the media and so on, regarding its existence and expansion. (See more below.)

What's Surfacing In The Modern Era

Today, growing awareness of the ever-available divine spiritual Kingdom and life arouses the Goddess (Creatrix of the opposite material creation with its death and suffering) to assert itself anew in efforts to be the divine. But it mostly produces only evil.

The spiritual Kingdom, of which we are progressively aware, reveals divinely-based human rights for women and men, and equality. In the highest Realm (where identities are spiritual, in Spirit's image), there's no division into males and females (as Paul told us). But Jesus was tolerant of humanity, and presented his program for lifting humans progressively to higher conditions.

Women today are judges, corporate executives, policewomen, military service people and political figures - - in addition to their traditional roles in teaching, literature, the arts and medicine.
They do anything technical, are math whizzes. They are clergy. Aided by hydraulic, electric and electronic controls, they drive bulldozers, fly big planes, do "muscle" work once done only by males.
All of this is long overdue where it is Spirit-based and where it reveals genuine equality, benefiting all, giving both females and males an open road ahead. But supremacy aspects of females over diminishing males is a distortion (as was male supremacy oppressing women).

But feminine supremacy from Goddess theory (not from the divine) is rising
Goddess-fulfillment theorists would raise females above equality to supremacy, controlling (some say even eliminating) males.
Goddess theory says She created the first male (by parthenogenesis, that is, without a male). Thus the male was secondary. Other aspects of creation followed. Then males attained power over females, and even shoved the Goddess into the background (although she has remained visible in all history).
So how did male power get out of hand for a time?

The Goddess had to protect her holiness
The Goddess had to protect her holiness, which was power, superiority, the moral high ground, the right to zap righteously, the inferiority of others. And so on.
However, in early pagan cultures, instead of holiness, the Goddess participated fully in fertility orgies which kicked off annual reproduction cycles.
In time, it dawned that such activity compromised the pure-lady idea, and hence, her authority. Something had to be done.
Some cultures met this by "restoring" her virginity yearly!

But as time went on, more had to be done. To maintain authority, the Goddess had to be holy, far from impurity.
The answer was to offload the impurity (its thoughts, drives and acts) onto males - - make them the sinful beasts.
The males said, "Great!" - - and lived up to their assignment.

After that, the males became so gross in so many areas of life that they had to be reined in - - but how could that be done?
The combination of factors in the "judo" described earlier, enabled a deep psychological/religious penetration of males which gave the females a winning sticker/screwer or the first female phallus.
But to complete turning the tables, the Goddess needed her own religion, not the male-dominated church with its male God.

Modern era permitters/enablers for females and also for Goddess concepts
We see governments, laws, popular attitudes, and various organized groups advocating, promoting and allowing females to rise and equalize.
As for Goddess-concepts of female supremacy over males - - and beliefs that this new order is the natural and inevitable fulfillment of Creation - - these ideas, despite promoting inequality, rode well on the waves of feminine equality.
Quasi-religions appeared supporting Goddess ideas. Although few use the word witchcraft today - - due to the medieval baggage of spooky witches, broomsticks, stake-burnings and the like - - forms of witchcraft or sorcery "lite" and fairly bland on the surface easily caught on with modern thought. Examples are Wicca in its varieties, and even Harry Potter. Wicca is permitted in public schools in the US (as is Potter), while Christianity is barred in many. But while "lite" is mild, the depths of old-fashioned witchcraft and sorcery are still present - - dark, devil- and death-based. (Llewellyn Publications' website features witchcraft plainly, in glamorous books as if all this - - spell-casting and so on, in detail - - were a normal part of today's social breadth.)

People are searching. Some just want material phenomena, and not the spiritual with its requirements that humans put on spiritual things, put off the material (harmlessly and by degrees). But in divine phenomena, we see results today such as seen thousands of years ago in the Bible.

Are Christian denominations providing a home for the Goddess material creatrix, material creation and its opposition to Spirit? To some extent, yes.

"Macho" maledom
Today, "macho" maledom has been driven out in most of North America and Europe. The caveman sex idea is only in cartoons of the male with a club dragging the woman by the hair to his lair.
Even most male "heroics" today are only vicarious - - identifying with "champions" as in the days of lists in England or gladiators in Rome. Today's spectator sports are arranged to grab one-left-standing gut instincts. Endless pyramidal elimination tournaments, often with Athens-Sparta type city/state battles, reach meaningless conclusions, before starting over. Players are idolized and paid unbelievable sums, showing their importance to our psyches, to our sense of our identity (when we'll never find our real identity vicariously).

Sea change
The basic meaning of "sea change" is the phenomenon found in certain fish that when the males are absent or weak, the females "become" males and do the necessary reproductive functions. (The term is mistakenly used for any major change, but the above is the original and only real meaning.)
Modern human society is in "sea change country."
Males are reduced, hence the sea change scales are tilted towards females and thus the emergent masculinity in females.

Yin, Yang - - opposites, NOT a harmonious, balanced pair
The ancient lore is that the yin (female, dark, passive, covert, death-force, etc.) and yang (male, light, active, overt, life-force, etc.) are in a harmonious balance, as in the circular yin-yang diagram with the two tadpole-like images tail to head.
Well, balance has never been the case.
The carnal mind's original split into males and females made opposites.
The mentality of the genitals is just that - - opposite. This is partly expressed in "battle of the sexes," and, with regard to the interaction of the genitals, the "combat zone."
The male action can be oppressive. The animal kingdom's violence leading to sex isn't to control one babe, but whole herds.
This is far less so in humans, but a framework is deep in the psyche. Degrees of love temper human sex acts except in rape. But love can be hard, even mild rape-love, venting instincts. Partial releases can involve just brow-beating, general control and so on.
In millennia past, oppression and false training passivated women of the globe, but today they're getting up and hollering. As for the US, in the 1970s we heard, Men are beasts! Male chauvinist pigs! And indeed, some were. However, attitudes changed as consciousness was raised.
But, by the calmer 1980s, many women even said they tired of their new lovey-dovey husband and wanted to be laid - - I mean, laid. Beaver banged! A little more tough stuff, please. At least once in a while.

Today's Goddess Trend
But back to the supposedly balanced but actually opposite yin and yang.
In today's emerging Goddess theory, females seek all the powers and controls of the male - - and "fufillment" with more.
The male yang once left the circular loop to rule the world and oppress the yin. But after "equalizing," the yin is breaking out for supremacy - - and we see books about male decline.

Destabilization of the sexes
Sexes are being destabilized, but there is a higher identity then sex. The awakening even slightly to real divine identity as spiritual wholeness has lifted minds and beneficially changed human lives. Carnal structures of incompleteness, splits, opposites, oppressions, conflicts, fixations, drives can't be resolved in the carnal (material) mind or Goddess-Creatrix systems which originated them. The answer is in the divine identity which Jesus (though in the flesh in order to be recognizable to us) presented for us.

Phenomena Of The Uncomfortable New Sexual Destabilizations

Jung's male and female identity in each human, also Freud's, coming out
Jung pointed out that in each human is a male and female identity. Arghh. This is more than a "masculine side" and a "feminine side."
Freud said one held down the development of the other. Steve Martin and Lily Tomlin appeared in a funny two-identity in one body movie. In real life in the carnal mind's confused haze and maze, hopefully the dominant nature fits with the sex of the physique it occupies - - but as we know, that often ain't so.

Equality can release the repressed of two identities inside a human. As the lid on the human structure lifts due to secular laws and also spiritual awakening, the repressed female in males appears, and likewise the repressed male in females appears. I also think there can be identity fragments and psyche splits beyond the basic. Those on a spiritual course must go all the way through to spiritual identity.

The feminine coming out in males and the masculine coming out in females aren't procreative, leading to at least some of the tidal wave of non-procreative sex-type practices and sensations today.

Total male is only half - - same for women
The "total male" of heroics and comic books is actually presenting only "half" - - he needs the "total" female, who is also only "half." And together they save the world.
The spiritual image and likeness of Spirit is whole - - neither male nor female in heaven, Paul said. But discovering it exposes the split nature of human material life, requiring major additional progress.

Oprah - - and the clitoris moving from under the counter to the surface in the US
Oprah is a leader in publicizing social changes, bringing them to the surface, letting us look at all sides.
In a show after 2000, she featured the beautiful Berman sisters, Jennifer MD, and Laura PhD, and their book, For Women Only. It gave information about the "female anatomy and how it works."
Right there on American national TV, the clitoris etc. was openly discussed. Women had a sensory apparatus and drive, and these two attractive most modern doctors expected them to use it.
Well, so what? Americans knew most of that. And the French knew it for centuries - - writers of the East for much longer.
But in the US, there had been two levels - - the surface, where it wasn't discussed, and below, where it, and information, and activity, were kept.
Oprah squirmed at the subject. Of course, though, she knew all this. But the point was, it was supposed somehow - - despite many poppings to the surface even in America, before retreating again below - - to be kept somewhat secret, hidden, tabooized, and not on the surface.
Oprah looked uncomfortably into the camera and said she never thought she would say the word clitoris on national TV. But from that moment, the clit was on the surface nationally and permanently. And subsequent Oprah shows take it for granted on the surface, discussing it openly.

Is nothing sacred?
Pharaoh's wife would have let Joseph be executed or rot in jail forever rather than admit that she, not he, was the sexual aggressor.
In contrast today, we have "desperate housewives."
And we have magazines, the web and TV all displaying once-forbidden sights in settings both clinical and passionate of any kind with any mates.
Whereas the female sensual apparatus and drive once were hidden behind denial facades and taboos of pseudo-holiness (or behind Salome's seven veils or a see-through nightgown of enticement when in the mood), today everything female—the physical and also much of the mental and religious—is in the open in full view.

Convex women and concave men
The Goddess today produces convex women and concave men - - masculinized females and feminized males. This type of pairing can coexist in apparently normal hetero relationships, and be procreative. For centuries it's been in families and churches, but the point is, it's worse now.
It reverses or alters the natural mental flow in sex. The male receives a dark yin flow, and imparts less of the yang flow.
The yin impartation doesn't have to involve a sex act. Its dark release or flow can be in negatives diminishing the male, and in put-down religions.
The dark yin force can addict the recipient. The male can masochistically respond and seek it. It may impart mental drugs including hallucinogens. More will be learned.
The darkness is the death-force usually subjugated but loosed in sex or sex-sensation type female release, necessary in some women, seemingly absent in others. Sex has been recognized for centuries as involving a "petit mort" for the male, and this is part of that "little death."

The "m-effer"
That now-popular term is supposed by many to refer to males "doing" their mothers  - - and to be an insult. But in the real meaning, it's the "phallic mother" sticking the son in the head and controlling with a variety of related factors psychologically, mentally and religiously, not with physical sex.
Or the mother or unrelated woman may "do" even grown males who can provide a psychic vagina for the aggressive force.
Release can be mental and religious.
The wife may be releasing her dark needs into her son, or other concave partner, while physically being a regular female to a regular male husband.
Dark releases can also be an aspect of lesbianism.

While everything seems to be in the open today, Oedipal matters are not fully so. The mother-taboo is the strongest, hiding the greatest mysteries, potential sins, and most fearsome possible harms.
For the mother to control the young male, or create an outlet for her dark sex forces, she has only to send signals which he doesn't understand but which arouse disturbing responses in him. Then she can zap and occupy him for his unconscious sinful thoughts - - which she engendered. The sinful mother's "sex" isn't physical but its dark flow includes mental and religious paralysants, drugs and hallucinogens. Even if these males marry, Mom remains on their head. Many are homosexuals. Mom Olympias ruled Alex the Great.

Some same-sex sex comments
Same-sex sex is on a roll. Males with males, females with females, national attitudes and laws radically changed.

Until some lady tennis players came out of the closet a couple of decades ago, lesbianism (in the US anyway) was called the love that couldn't be mentioned. But one tennis player everyone liked suddenly made people realize girl-girl sexuality was here to stay, and that the type of sex could be mentioned. Attitudes changed.

Part of same-sex sex resulted from religious persecution of natural sex (and religion-related civil criminalizing of it as sin, sin, sin). (Religions still haven't figured out that the Yes-yes but No-no in the Garden is only the carnal mind's super-dichotomy - - among many more of its dichotomies in its "kingdom divided" system - - to keep our minds split and unable to figure out that it is a deceiver.)
Religions today are scrambling to undo their damage, promote civilized and religionized but Tarzan and Jane basics.

As for the rise of sodomy today, religions, inundated, still oppose oral/anal and same-sex sex while seeking solutions. Laws in the West have removed heavy, even death penalties (still found in the Bible and Middle East), and now protect the practices and followers.

In the emerging Goddess system and destabilization of sexuality, do we any longer need males?
The Goddess can "recall" the male model today.
Males are no longer needed to divert blame from females, who now allow their sexuality and sensuality to be in the open.
As for reproduction, with labs having the sperm of brilliant people and athletes to impregnate women, who needs Joe Blow's ordinariness?
Well, women can't have sex with lab equipment, but for excitement today, not for babies, they can openly try as many partners as they wish - - male or female.

Maybe human eggs in great numbers will be put on long rows in labs to produce jillions of superior females to rule the world.
In a futuristic scenario, the Goddess may front herself with a few super-males, but none independent.

The disappearing "Y" chromosome - - will the male's decline finish him?
Books today and one recent TV documentary tell of the declining male Y chromosome  - - with some sources saying it may phase out entirely. Arghh.

Today's science of male development reveals that all human foetuses are female for several weeks before the Y chromosome (for the male) enters the picture. Then the female external genitals with which all foetuses begin, develop into male genitals.
Thus it's now a scientific fact that the essential ground or entity is the female, and that the male is created from it.
All of that fits in with the emergent theory of Goddess-female-supremacy - - although no mention is made of that fact except here.

Males can now squirm more than before, and more desperately seek the firm basis for their masculinity. But at the base, they may have only femaleness.
The answer is in the spiritual identity that Jesus tried to show us, although he appeared in the flesh. In Spirit's image, identity is complete, whole, "one" - - and was never split. Our real life is "hid with Christ in God."

Militarism and war to prove masculinity?
Great end-time wars might occur as males - - to prove their masculinity - - turn to that old standby, militarism and war.

The carnal mind's end-time fight
As the divine Kingdom (spiritual, ever-present but little seen) is progressively realized, the Goddess or material-creative mind - - in its aspects that won't change and instead insist on being "enmity against God" - - will fight and disrupt in various ways including the biblically prophesied earthquakes and time of unprecedented trouble. And try to blame it all on God.
The carnal mind at base is "enmity against God." There are overlaps with the divine - - such as a nice day and flowers - - but for starters, look out for storms. The lower regions of Nature are death.

Many elements of material creation and collective consciousness, plus many individual people, will conform to the divine influence, and transform by degrees upwards. That's the historic and future path to ever-higher ground. But end-time (of evil) spiritual progress stirs world and personal depths, exposes and corners evil, arouses unprecedented ferocity, and results temporarily in disasters, temptations and slick deceptions as never before. Many people will battle evil, win, and continue upwards. But in much of the world, evil will seem to have the upper hand. Judeo-Christian overcomers will have to be hard at work in spiritual warfare in conjunction with the divine until all evil is ended.

As for evil's yet-unexpressed depths, even some inanimate material atoms contain indescribable destructive force.

Major upheavals lie ahead, but all death comes from the carnal mind, not from God. Scripture (II Cor. 10:4) calls for "warfare" not with carnal weapons - - but have we learned how to win with that, or even resist by using spiritual not carnal methods?
Jesus prophesied end-time (of evil) "wars and rumours of wars." Some will be good vs. evil with plenty of prayer, similar to WWII. Some will be just war for war's sake, including evil forces vs. evil forces. In all of this, collateral damage will be excessive.

Wars against evil don't get rid of evil
Evil people, organizations and empires fall, but evil isn't destroyed by modern explosions or ancient swords. It just shifts into other forms later. The elimination of evil itself comes only by the divine spiritual warfare, which we don't yet grasp, but will have to learn and use in order to qualify as followers of Jesus at the end-time (of evil) level.
Many believe God will just lose patience and end evil by out-eviling it, but actually, God and His followers will end all evil by progressively using the harmless, bloodless, elevating warfare - - when we learn what it is and how to do it.
The great unification with the Lord (I Thes. 4:16-17) empowers us to work with the ever-present Lord and Kingdom always here, coming to our awareness and use. So unpack your bags, saints.

The defeated Woman of Babylon revealed - - the Goddess of death
Babylon is defeated (Rev. 16:19 – 19:3). In the "woman" exposed and cornered is found the blood of prophets and saints, and of "all that were slain upon the earth" (Rev. 17:6; 18:2, 24).
Finally exposed, reduced and cornered, is the material Creatrix or carnal mind - - which posed for a time as God and fooled or deceived (Rev. 12:9) people in varying degrees.

The Goddess pretending to be holy was actually profane as hell.

Fulfilled?
It's not the Goddess/carnal mind/material creatrix that reaches fulfillment and supremacy on earth in upcoming years (although apparently it will continue to try), but it's the always-existent little-seen divine Kingdom (for example, see Matthew 13:44, "hid"), becoming known and victoriously used by us (for example, see Matthew 10:7-8, also 24:14).
The divine is progressively setting up in spiritualized earthly forms as it takes over from the material or carnal death-sentenced creation and murderous systems of the Goddess.

Tough battle to get out?
Humans trying to escape the material realm are hit with overt blasts and hidden seductions. The Goddess doesn't want to let anyone go. But "She" can't hold us back or keep the Kingdom from continuing to set up on earth even as it has always been set up in heaven.

Finally, what of Mary?
Some today want to elevate Mary to co-Redeemer with Jesus, and to a place fully within the Godhead and maybe above it, as Mother of God - - Mother of all.
At the same time, another school of thought would return the focus to Mary the anointed and insipired individual without Goddess elements.

-----------------

Many balls are in the air at the moment, and it will be interesting indeed to watch things, and to travel the road ahead.
